Whenever I’ve talked about gift ideas, it has always been for someone else. Well, today, I decided to make a list of the gifts I would like to receive. (Hopefully, my husband will read this post.)
And of course, first and formost I wish for the health and happiness of my family and friends. Without them, the rest doesn’t matter.

My mother-in-law makes the best green beans for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. I would have never thought of this combination, but it is absolutely delicious. As you can see from the photo, the colors in this dish add a festive touch. Here’s her recipe.
Ingredients:
1 lb. fresh greenbeans
4 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 cup onions, chopped
2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
2 tablespoons parsley, finely chopped
5 firm ripe tomatoes
2 tablespoons bread crumbs
Salt and pepper
Directions:
Saute the onion in hot oil until it becomes clear, but does not brown. Add the garlic, parsley, and green beans. Stir well. Cover and allow to simmer over moderate heat until the green beans are halfway done. Slice the tomatoes. Add the sliced tomatoes and bread crumbs to the green beans. Season with salt and pepper. Cover and allow to simmer over moderate heat until the green beans are tender. Add water as required. Serves about 8 people.
I would not recommend using canned green beans for this recipe. If necessary, you can substitute canned tomatoes for fresh tomatoes.
In my book, this dish beats green bean casserole hands down. It not only tastes better, but it also presents better. Try it out and let me know what you think.

About a month ago, my husband e-mailed this joke to me.
When I had been married 25 years, I took a look at my wife one day and said,
“Honey, 25 years ago we had a cheap apartment, a cheap car, slept on a sofa bed, and watched a 10 inch black & white TV; but I got to sleep every night with a hot 25 year old blonde.
Now we have a $500,000 home, a $45,000 car, a nice big bed, and a plasma TV; but I’m sleeping with a 50 year old woman.
It seems to me that you are not holding up your side of things.”
My wife is a very reasonable woman.
She told me to go out and find a hot 25 year old blonde; and she would make sure that I would once again be living in a cheap apartment, driving a cheap car, sleeping on a sofa bed, and watching a 10 inch black & white TV.
Aren’t older women great?
They really know how to solve a mid-life crisis!

Good News! While I was in Publix the other day, the staff informed me that they have some Pilgrim salt and pepper shakers left over from last year. To make things even better, these shakers are on sale, 2 for $4.99. So, if you missed out last year, here’s your chance to pick up these cute shakers at a great price.
Good Luck and Happy Holidays!
I was in another Publix (in Pembroke Pines) and noticed that they have some of the Snowfolks too, for the same deal of 2 for $4.99. (11/12)
Today at the Publix in West Miramar, they had some of the Lilgrims. They are also on sale.
