Last year, my niece got easter egg dye all over her hands, arms, and face Unfortunately, easter was the following day and the easter egg dye wasn’t coming off. After much research, I found that good ol’ Lava Soap will clean the easter egg dye right off your skin. You can buy it at your grocery store for a couple of dollars.
Here are a few more suggestions from others who have commented below:
According to Paula, Toothpast and a nailbrush does the trick. And Laura says Fels-Naptha also works like a charm. If you have a remedy that works for you please add a comment. You just might save someone’s day.
So, here’s to decorating those eggs and having clean children afterwards!

Every year my family and I pick out a big, beautiful pumpkin. We have been to Ludwig’s Market (which is no longer there, so sad) and Church Pumpkin Patches. This year we are going to Batten’s Farm. Here is their information.
Located at 5151 SW 64th Avenue, Davie, FL (between Griffin Rd. & Stirling Rd. on Davie Road). 954-792-0068
Open daily from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m., closed on Wednesdays.
They have a small selection of pumpkins at this time, but will be stocking up on lots of fresh pumpkins between October 15th and 18th.
SouthFlorida.com has a nice write up on them as the Best Farmers’ Market.
To learn more about pumpkins and how to carve them, I have included a couple of sites.
- PumpkinPatchesandMore.org is an excellent resource. It has all sorts of information, including the following:
- Pumpkin Carving 101 is another great resource. It outlines every step (with photos) of the pumpkin carving process from choosing the right pumpkin to having the right tools.
For those of you looking for a faster and more convenient solution, Publix has real pumpkins with funny faces painted on them for $9.99. They’re really cute or should I say scary.
Whichever way you decide to go, make it fun and make it glow.

My kids love play dough. It provides hours of entertainment and it’s excellent for developing their gross motor skills. With this in mind, why not try making your own? It is something fun that you and the kids can do together (maybe on a rainy day).
Here is the recipe.
1 cup flour
1 cup water
1/2 cup salt
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tbsp. cooking oil
food coloring
In a saucepan, mix dry ingredients. Add oil, water, and food coloring. Cook three minutes over medium/low heat, or until mixture pulls away from sides of pan. Remove from pan and knead until blended smooth. Place in plastic bag or airtight container when cooled. It should last a long time.
Applesaucekids.com has a handful of variations on this recipe, some are even edible.
And here are some ideas for your play dough.
- Add cinnamon or peppermint extract to give the play dough a nice scent.
- Give it as a birthday gift or party favor along with the recipe, a child size rolling pin, and some cookie cutters.
- Make a larger batch (by doubling or quadrupling the recipe) to have as a birthday party activity.
However you decide to make it, the end result is always the same: kids having hours of fun.
