October is Adopt-a-pet month

Private and public shelters are filled with lost or abandoned pets. They are all hoping for a new, loving home. Cat & DogUnfortunately, most of these pets will not get a new home. This year eight million unwanted dogs will be euthanized/gassed in the USA. Save a life by adopting a pet from your local animal shelter.

Here are some excellent places to start looking for local pets.

If you are thinking about adopting a dog, the American Kennel Club is an excellent resource. It has several sections you may want to read (before getting a dog), including; Are you ready for a dog?, The right dog for you, Finding your dog, and Being a responsible dog owner.

October is adopt-a-pet month, but there are many ways to help a pet in need. Shelters always appreciate donations and volunteers.

I hope you have a happy October and maybe a happy new pet.

If you’re over the whole halloween thing and want something different to do, you’re in luck. The Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show and Art in the Park will be going on. Here are the details.

It’s the world’s largest boat show featuring more than a billion dollars worth of boats, yachts, superyachts, electronics, engines and thousands of accessories. The show encompasses over 3 million square feet of space, both on land and in water, at six sites (all connected by the Show Transportation Network).

Art in the Park
A juried art show featuring appoximately 130 artists, specialty foods, snacks and beverages for purchase, live entertainment, and a separate KIDS KORNER with entertainment by & for kids, activities, and crafts. (For a schedule of kid’s entertainment, please click here.)

  • Location: Liberty Tree Park
Corner of NW 5th St. & NW 74th Ave., Plantation

Personally, I think boats and art are always fun to look at. If you think along these lines, then one or both of these events might be for you.

Publix is discontinuing the Pilgrim Salt & Pepper Shakers

I was in Publix the other day and saw a big red sign posted with the seasonal salt & pepper shakers. It said:

This is the final year for:

Publix Pilgrims, Lilgrims, and Snowfolks Season Greeters!

Available while supplies last

I spoke to the Publix grocery manager to verify this information. He said it’s true and that they may begin a new collection next year or so. I couldn’t believe it, they’re so cute. I immediately stopped grocery shopping and started picking out the last few pieces I wanted (from each collection).

If you or anyone you know collects these Publix Season Greeters, pass the message along.

Do you want to know more about “Lost”?

I watched “Lost” last night (Wednesday, October 18th), along with every other fan. It’s a show that captures audiences across the spectrum. It peeks your curiousity and makes you want to talk to others (not “the others”) about what just happened and what will happen. But if you’re not tired of thinking/talking about the show, here are a few Lost websites to check out.

Official ABC site for Lost
As the official site, you can watch the show online or download it on iTunes. The site also features Lost Beginnings, Lost Connections, Lost Wiki, Lost Theories, and Lost Fan Club.

Lostpedia.com – The Lost Encyclopedia
This site is saturated with anything and everything you want to know about the show. It’s awesome. And the fist time you check out the site, it may take you over an hour. Another cool feature is that the site can be viewed in 8 languages.

Lost-Media.com – Lost Fansite
This site has character bios, a calendar of Lost shows & interviews, media clips, and a handful of other interesting Lost links.

And if these sites don’t satisfy your need to know more about the show, you yourself may be lost to “Lost”.
